Translation Guidelines
What do you allow?
- Taking screenshots. Credit is not needed but very appreciated for accessibility reasons!
- Screenshotting Bluesky posts for use on other sites. As it says, this does not pertain to whole stories but like, tidbits I post or homescreen lines in Garupa. My username should be shown in the picture and my original post linked back.
- Usage for fanwork. Like fanart/fanfic/analyses -- I welcome it! Just credit me. For analysis specifically I would like to be asked beforehand also.
- Feel free to just send these my way regardless because I'd love to see what you've made!
- Quotebots. I do require credit here -- putting it on a separate info page (i.e. carrd/rentry) would suffice!
- You can adjust my translations for clarification. Changing a pronoun to the person's name, or switching out a literalized nickname to its English equivalent, etc. are fine.
- Linkage in masterlists. I aim for accessibility first and foremost so honestly I kinda beg of you to do this?? Please? Much appreciated!
- Translation into other languages. Just keep in mind that my style tends to be very liberal, so I advise some discretion in keeping it too 1:1. Credit me (and link back to my translation) of course, and I encourage telling me beforehand! Mostly so I can skim over my work and tell you where exactly I've been a bit loose in translating the original text.
What do you not allow?
- Reuploading of translations. I'll allow the use of archive sites (think Wayback) but do not copypaste entire stories onto your own blog or something lol
- Overt modification of translations. When it strays too far from adjusting for clarification and more like changing the intent of the text I'm gonna have to ask you to knock it off.
- Use in commercial work. I mean this to be commissioned artwork or like, being quoted in a YouTube video with AdSense on. If you just have a tipjar somewhere, this does not apply.
Please tell me when someone doesn't follow these. I'm sure in most cases it's an honest mistake and I'll be glad to talk it out with the person in question.
How do you prefer to be credited?
All three names are fine, but if I had to choose... use Spade, for consistency. You'll notice I'm not consistent myself (sorry). For a username, go for SpectralSpade. I'd like it if you linked back to my Bluesky or this directory.
